The town of Ratnapura is home to the Gem Trading Center of Sri Lanka. Located about 100 km south east of the capital ,Colombo, this location is known as “The City of Gems”. Ratnapura is the home of gem mines and there are numerous tours that allow individuals to discover where the gems come from and the process that goes behind finding these pieces. These are once in a lifetime tours that authentically show you the foundations of a trade that is timeless.

We provide:

In our packages we provide 5 nights accommodation at the 3-5 Star Hotel. The first day starts at Colombo and is an opportunity to explore the location at your own pace. The second , third and fourth day all consist of sourcing , checking and buying Gemstones. The fifth and final day is a stay at the Negombo Beach Hotel and we provide transportation to the airport.

This is an in-depth access to the mines with guides that have a magnitude of mineralogical and gemological knowledge with a background in this field. You will be lead on this trip by experienced miners who will guide you along these sites providing you will all the necessary equipment to ensure your safety is a priority at all times.

As part of this package we organize the necessary paperwork for the export of all stones, minerals or cut gems with the opportunity to buy Gems that are rough/cut or polished pieces at attractive wholesale prices.

Part of this Gemstone Safari includes transportation , airport transfer and a hotel which includes breakfast during the entire stay.

Not Included:

This package doesn’t include the appropriate footwear or clothes so its essential you come prepared with these items. The average temperature of the mines can range between 30-40 degrees so sunscreen and a sunhat is crucial.

The Gem certificate charges are not included. Export taxes for stones, minerals or cut gems plus a commission of 5% for preparation of the necessary papers, are not included. All additional costs are left to individuals to pay. Flight arrangements to Colombo are not included and lunch and dinner are not provided in the package.
